This project explored a new paradigm for mountain resort development. The approach preserved the river valley and proposed five dense mountainside villages that were responsive to climate and the landscape. Each village had its own character and use and was meant to be compact and urbane yet wedded to the landscape. Views and solar exposure were maximized for each village. The lower village was conceived as a new downtown for the ski town of Winter Park which is more like a highway strip development.A dense urban core was create, with a skating rink and connected to the river and the town. High density housing and resorts were focused on this lower town.
