Ruwais will become a major regional destination within Al Gharbia in Abu Dhabi. It is an important support center for the tourist islands of Delma and Sir Bani Yas, as well as a national center and focus for the energy industry - a major employment and growth base to the region. The city will be a highly amenitized community that delivers services, employment opportunities, civic, retail, and recreation facilities in an incremental manner to support the  growing diverse residential population.

The Masterplan vision is to create a broad-based sustainable community, evolving from a company town supporting the petrochemical industry, to become a “complete town.” The plan builds on and reinforces the existing physical and ecological values of the site, incorporating sites of significance into a broad-reaching open space network.  The expansion of the town will incorporate sustainability strategies aimed at minimizing energy and water usage in a manner that embraces best practice techniques.
